Normally I have no problem treating sanguine, malachite, coal or anything else with a hammer. Since the holidays, when ezo.minerals sent me this pigment, I like this lump so much that I can’t take the hammer in my hand…
For centuries, Volkonskoite has only been mined in one place. The pigment comes from the Urals, from the village of Efimiata in the Perm region. Icon writers were fond of this petrified tree because it does not mind the passage of time, has a rare green tone and gives capital laser transitions. In the studio, it holds a place of honour on the top shelf of pigments.
Maybe one day I’ll dare. Today I can’t.
